Father Csaba’s reflection on the gospel ..The Second Sunday of Advent ….10 December 2017
Saint John the Baptist is a great example for Advent ! The prophet not only waited for the Redeemer but he himself sets out , he is certain that the One he is waiting for will come , and with a heart full of hope goes towards Him in the desert. John is asking us that we don’t only wait passively for the emanation of God’s love with glazed eyes , accepting our fate , timidly but with living faith lets set off, get going towards Christ to meet Him !" A voice of one crying out in the desert:
"Prepare the way of the Lord,make straight his paths.”Mark 1,2
What is our plan for Advent ? How can we let Christ know unanimously , that we are here, we are ready to meet Him ? How can I show the Lord of Life that I am prepared to accept His graces, His gifts that determine my life ? The stillness of Advent is the time to retreat into the desert . Unfortunately nowadays our churches became deserted and this is why I am encouraging you to immerse yourself into the quietness in front of the altar ! Lets fill up the abandoned places in front of the Holy Eucharist lets create the fraternity of the Holy Eucharist ! On this road I am also offering you a crutch as well !
With love,
Father Csaba
translated by dr k.e.
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God.
As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you;
he will prepare your way.
A voice of one crying out in the desert:
"Prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight his paths."
John the Baptist appeared in the desert
proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
People of the whole Judean countryside
and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem
were going out to him
and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River
as they acknowledged their sins.
John was clothed in camel's hair,
with a leather belt around his waist.
He fed on locusts and wild honey.
And this is what he proclaimed:
"One mightier than I is coming after me.
I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals.
I have baptized you with water;
he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
Mark 1, 1-8
