Father Csaba’s reflection on the gospel….Monday 2 December 2019
The centurion from Capernaum feels , knows that he is small , incapable , weak to solve the mounting problems facing him , restoring the health of his servant . He turns to Jesus , cries out to Jesus :” Oh come , oh come Emmanuel .”
The truth of the matter is that all of us are centurions of of Caparneum . Many such problems , worries are weighing us down that we are too small weak to carry , that by ourselves we cannot solve , remedy .
How many times did it happen that in the upbringing of one or another of our children , as a pedagogue we failed and we felt that we could not even explain the simplest, most elementary thing to our children growing up. We can protect the children entrusted into our care from cold, hunger perhaps even from different illnesses as well but unfortunately not from themselves . A young person with his/her irresponsible acts, naive , ill-considered decisions can do unbelievably a lot of damage to themselves . At times like this what else can I do than the centurion from Capernaum than hurry to Jesus asking help, solution from Him. . The years pass and it is so good to see the help does come , our young people settle down and realising that in their own interest they will step on the way of growth , development .
It is Advent , trusting in God’s world-forming power , goodness we go to Him as child to his father , we present to God, our Creator, our problems , troubles , we ask for His help, solution to all that , that is hurting , that we are too weak, small for solving . In the quietness of Advent let us compose day after day our requests and trustingly lets turn to Christ our Redeemer.
With love ,
Father Csaba

The Word of God
When he entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, appealing to him and saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralysed, in terrible distress." And he said to him, "I will come and cure him." The centurion answered, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes, and to another, 'Come,' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this,' and the slave does it." When Jesus heard him, he was amazed and said to those who followed him, "Truly I tell you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith. I tell you, many will come from east and west and will eat with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
