Father Csaba’s reflection on the gospel….
Sunday 18 June 2017 The Feast of the Holy Body and Blood of Christ: Corpus Christi.
This world is absolutely beautiful, man being curious by nature wanders over his surrounding , pulls out every draw , driven by the desire to become acquainted ! Man embarking on the ways of discovery often had the feeling that they walked into a wall but there was always a way of getting further , finding somewhere a crack, a split and once wriggling through it one could step into a wonderful, newer , wide domain of our existence !!The greats of humanity are continuously stretching the boundaries, the confines, last century our scientists understood that matter is really energy that can also be released from the atomic structure !! This discovery is not only about Hiroshima , but every single nuclear power station , for example Paks , that I also visited and if it would stop tomorrow , the greater part of Hungary would loose her energy supply, that would also collapse, turning the country into darkness and large area of the country would sink into conditions similar to the middle ages !
The energy , the force , could also become embodied , on the dawn of our creation -according to the current scientific views - our world was born close to 14 billion years ago at the time of the big bang ! And this is also what happened two thousand years ago on Christmas Eve , the infinite love of God became incarnate in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ !! Yes we believe and profess that our God came among us , became incarnate from the Virgin Mary , Jesus Christ is true God and true Man , this is the basis of our faith! With our Mother the Church I profess , that the living God did not only become incarnate in Bethlehem , but in every holy mass , to the “yes” of our loving devotion but also , with kind-hearted love , the Word becomes flesh in the Holy Eucharist ! This is a wonderful big secret that our Redeemer discloses to us on several occasions , and for the celebration of which He Himself gave a commandment as well on Holy Thursday:”do this in memory of me “! The heavenly bread offered by Jesus, is the greatest treasure of our Catholic Church , as the Vatican council states, the source of our life but during the time of our earthly life the highest achievable pinnacle as well ! During my visit to Iraq, I also saw it everywhere that the priests of the Christian churches under attacked did not flee with treasures of gold and silver , but embracing tightly the Holy Eucharist, when looking for security in far away places !
Studying history it is obvious , that those people, that community that drifts away from the Holy Eucharist is like the branch cut off the vine, perhaps if it falls into water it will live for a while but then it gets paler, dries out and dies ! Jesus speaks very unambiguously :"Amen, amen, I say to you,
unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood,
you do not have life within you. “
On the Feast of Corpus Christi let us gather in our churches with a childlike trust and together with our priests following the example of Mary, lets say “yes” to the call of God and celebrate our Lord Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh in the Holy Eucharist , the God coming among us , wanting to embrace us !
On bended knees ,
Father Csaba
translated by dr k.e.
Jesus said to the Jewish crowds:
"I am the living bread that came down from heaven;
whoever eats this bread will live forever;
and the bread that I will give
is my flesh for the life of the world."
The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying,
"How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
Jesus said to them,
"Amen, amen, I say to you,
unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood,
you do not have life within you.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood
has eternal life,
and I will raise him on the last day.
For my flesh is true food,
and my blood is true drink.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood
remains in me and I in him.
Just as the living Father sent me
and I have life because of the Father,
so also the one who feeds on me
will have life because of me.
This is the bread that came down from heaven.
Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died,
whoever eats this bread will live forever.”
John 6, 51-58
