Father Csaba’s reflection on the gospel….
Harsh talk ! God expects from the prophet of the old testament that they plant, and that they wreak havoc , their words be double edge sword ! The priest in the courts according to the old testament always said what the ruler wanted to hear . Elijah, Jeremiah, Isaiah and the other prophets always spoke very harshly to the people of their time.
Jesus as God, can see very clearly that "the wages of sin is death” . He knows that hypocrisy , the behaviour of the pharisees , the half solutions , that in reality is a coverup of selfishness, avarice , lust for power will lead His people into destruction . This is why He names openly, face to face some of His contemporaries "whitewashed tombs” . As God He can see the destruction of Jerusalem , He sees that "not one stone here will be left on another” and He tells this to His contemporaries frankly, harshly because He would like people to be converted !!
The big question I have if Jesus Christ could not stop the free-fall of His own people on Palm Sunday or even on Good Friday why the people did not choose Him the truth and the good and why did they choose Barabbas ? And if Jesus the Son of God could not get His own people to convert whether will I , or will be successful in taking out of their way of selfishness , avarice , crushing others the man of the XXIst century ? What chance do we have to persuade the XXIst century “Herodes" , "Pilates “ the “chief counsellor” to decide by love , the way of mercy ?
I know that we cannot get off the way of love ! An even if by any chance bombs would fall from the sky , then even then I should preach in a loud voice about the mercy of God and the final victory of love !
With love,
Father Csaba
translated by dr k.e.
The Lord said:
"Woe to you who build the memorials of the prophets
whom your fathers killed.
Consequently, you bear witness and give consent
to the deeds of your ancestors,
for they killed them and you do the building.
Therefore, the wisdom of God said,
'I will send to them prophets and Apostles;
some of them they will kill and persecute'
in order that this generation might be charged
with the blood of all the prophets
shed since the foundation of the world,
from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah
who died between the altar and the temple building.
Yes, I tell you, this generation will be charged with their blood!
Woe to you, scholars of the law!
You have taken away the key of knowledge.
You yourselves did not enter and you stopped those trying to enter."
When Jesus left, the scribes and Pharisees
began to act with hostility toward him
and to interrogate him about many things,
for they were plotting to catch him at something he might say.
Luke 11, 47-54
