Father Csaba’s reflection on the gospel…Tuesday 27 February 2018
"The greatest among you will be your servant. “Matthew 23, 12
There are so many “greater brothers” who like to freely give their opinion," you should not have left in such a weather" ! They maybe right too, but what we really need is someone , who wisely , lovingly, humbly helps to shovel away the snow , opening a path in front of our snow-covered car !!It is exciting to stand by your brother , take hold of his hand and paying attention kindheartedly , consciously finding out all his real, deep thoughts , even those that he himself cannot or dares not to admit to himself , and kindheartedly , wisely start working on it so that his dream may come true !! Paying attention to our father Saint Francis initially I was a bit reluctant to assign myself the least role but slowly I discovered that it is wonderful to be a lesser brother , and walk on the shining path of Christ !!
To sit at the head of the table means that you take care of the youngest member of your household as well, you notice that his shoes are torn, if he is sad, if your eyes are also irritated by the smoke of the cigarette of the cigarettes smoked nonchalantly by your teenager !! You try and find a remedy ,a solution wisely , patiently , without judgement , without giving orders, but following the example of the redeeming Christ you take upon yourself everybody’s problems !
Dare willingly to be a lesser brother to your loved ones , believe in the world-forming power of love , and set out in the land of miracles following in the footsteps of your God !! I encourage you lovingly , become a lesser brother, you don’t have to be come either a friar, nor a priest , you don’t have to give up your family , there where you live start it, get going , accept that in your community , you are the serving brother of all noticing and solving their problems !
I am your partner in your service ,
Father Csaba
translated by dr k.e.
Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat; therefore, do whatever they teach you and follow it; but do not do as they do, for they do not practice what they teach. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on the shoulders of others; but they themselves are unwilling to lift a finger to move them. They do all their deeds to be seen by others; for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long. They love to have the place of honour at banquets and the best seats in the synagogues, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and to have people call them rabbi. But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all students. And call no one your father on earth, for you have one Father - the one in heaven. Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Messiah. The greatest among you will be your servant. All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and all who humble themselves will be exalted."
Matthew 23:1-12
