"… a leper approached, did him homage, and said, 'Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.' He stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, "I will do it. Be made clean." His leprosy was cleansed immediately.”
Matthew 8:2-3
How easy it is to catch a disease or a bad, sinful habit and how hard it is to get rid of it! How great that we can seek comfort and healing in Jesus Christ! We need to believe that we can be freed, that by God's grace we can be cleansed from our faults and sins and stand up again in health, peace and freedom from our troubles! Our time's major leprosy is hostility, hatred, which often ends in bloody war! Since the Pandemic, divorce cases have increased significantly in the courts! Without much reflection, people easily denounce each other. Look also how easily the big powers take up arms for alleged or real grievances and kill people in deadly wars!
Let us think of the leprosy of ourselves, of our people, of the world, and let us kneel before our Saviour in the example of the man who seeks healing in today's Gospel! 'Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.' We must not accept that such is the world! Let us not claim that there has always been hatred, anger, war, bloodshed! Let us not accept that either we ourselves or the world has leprosy, but let us strive to regain our freedom and dignity as children of God! In our daily prayers, let us ask for help and healing from the one who is the imperishable Life, Jesus Christ.
With love from
