If someone does not believe in God , then they start to idolise a person, a doctrine , a nation or the body, all sorts of gadgets , from which unbelievably distorted things can come to life. If there is no living God , then we look for godlike substitutes .

At the time of the overthrow of Ceausescu I was a priest in Dés. We would have liked to found a kindergarten, but we said it is too early yet we have to grow up to the task, we have to get money, to train ourselves .

We did not even try the following year , because we felt we were too small and weak . In October of that year I received a letter from my superiors , in which they informed me that they are going to transfer me from Dés to Déva . I was crestfallen . In vain did I collect strength , money I had to pass over my cherished dream to someone else , who may not feel the importance of this task as much ! Right up to this day there is no kindergarten there , perhaps there was no need for it , this however is not the essence , but I felt those three years were wasted in vain. I did not commit sins, but still I felt within myself guilty of omission , of making no headway .

Pain, suffering  cannot be dispensed drop by drop, it cannot be measured . For the outside world it is invisible , fear , hopelessness , suffering can often  thrust a person into the deepest depth .

The blessed Virgin Mother did not become the Queen of Heaven by great oration. In today’s sense, meaning of the word She was not a star, She was the inhabitant of a small Palestinian village , She lived just like anyone else , but by Her carrying out Her daily tasks and by Her  total reliance of God, Her unconditional trust She grows up to become the Queen of Heaven : She accepts the Child from the Holy Spirit , also accepting that they may not believe Her , despite all the fear and uncertainties She is prepared to say “yes” : becomes a fugitive in Egypt , though not understanding always but She always perseveres by Jesus’ side . At the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry  and at the end of it She is always by His side, accompanies Him on the way of the cross , and suffers with Him under the cross and together with the apostles receives the Holy Spirit .

Jesus speaks very clearly , that there is an evil spirit , " Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter, 5,8 , that wants to ruin everything . I do not want to frighten anybody , but the world we live in , is not only God’s world , but the world of sin  and evil as well .

Accidentally or ignorantly committed sins are punishable by a lay court but of course mitigating circumstances are taken into consideration. 

In the world ignorance of the rules of the law , does not exempt one from the judgement. But the worldly courts cannot see into one’s heart , this is why often biased judgments are handed down by these judges./ courts. 

Saint Padre Pio from Pietrelciani puts this into words very nicely : “The evil spirit has only one entry into our hearts : the will,  there are no other hidden ways. There is no such sin that was not willingly committed . If the will does not allow it , then sin would not have been committed , but human weakness , frailty . “

The cold autumn has set in. Let’s think of those who are in trouble, difficulties and let’s not only emphasise the responsibility of the state , or others , but let us also help each other , at least pray for  all those who are cold, hungry !!

Our Lord God, You who takes care of the birds of heaven, take care of the poor , the orphan, the lonely !!

Every discovery is liken, the one-time, stone axe , that Cain and Abel used. It is a wonderful tool, by it they could defend themselves from wild animals, could obtain food , it was a great milestone taking the utensils into their hands , but unfortunately atrocities could also be committed by it, it is possible to kill a person with it . All of God’s gifts can be used for good or bad purposes. Using the same letters we can glorify God , but at the same time we can also write , spread malicious gossip .

I can imagine that from the great tree of  humanity branches will break off and will perish- this has also happened during the course of history - but somehow the holy trunk will put out shoots, sprout again. God is at work.

Jesus never said , that He will make the journey of His followers without “potholes”. He is not saying that there will be no temptation, storm, worry, sickness , sadness , lack of understanding in one’s life, but He is saying that holding onto God we’ll be able to ride out and survive the difficulties , and if we fall , it will be easier to get back on our feet.
